We can be very proud of that our students achieve

As it is the time of year to publish school league tables I thought it would be useful to give you some background information.

“Progress 8 was introduced in 2016 as the headline indicator of school performance determining the floor standard. It aims to capture the progress a pupil makes from the end of primary school to the end of key stage 4. It is a type of value-added measure, which means that pupils’ results are compared to the progress of other pupils nationally with similar prior attainment. Every increase in every grade a pupil achieves will attract additional credit in the performance tables.”

Whilst like all accountability measures it has its flaws, it attempts to create a level playing field, in that regardless of ability it is judging schools on the progress their students make. The tables themselves can be accessed with the link below;

When we look at them we can be very proud of what our students achieve. I’ve attached a simplified version of the tables for last year below. What they show is that the schools that have greater progress than Westfield are all highly selective schools. There is still progress to be made, but it's great to see.
