#6 September 2016

Welcome back and for new parents’ welcome. I hope you all had an amazing summer. It is however great to be back for what will be a fabulous year for us.

Firstly, I would like to offer congratulations to all the Year 11 and Year 13 students, for their very successful exam results this summer. They achieved some of the best results the Academy has ever had. Of all the results I was so pleased to see the number of top grades (A*) go from 19 last year to 46 this year. This is incredible and can only come from the real hard work and dedication of both students and teachers. This alongside 56% of the students achieving 5 grades A*-C including English and Maths made for a really great end to the summer for all of us.

As for this year. Well it has started superbly, we have the largest number of Year 7 students that we have ever had as an Academy, which bodes really well for moving into our new, larger building. It was great to see them all this year in assembly, with their new blazers and ties all now with the new Westfield logo. (Please don’t worry if your child is in the old logo, most of the older students are. When it has to be replaced it can then feature the new design.) The large number of Year 7 students, the new uniform and new building for us signal the next stage of the Academy’s development.

In assembly this week, with all the students, I used the amazing team GB performance in the summer Olympics in Rio to explain our motto of; Believe, Strive Achieve. I firmly believe that by continuing to follow this motto we will take the Academy beyond its last two “Good” inspections to an even higher level in the future.

The new building is progressing well. I walked around it on Friday (09/09/16) and have attached some photos to give you an update. The closer we get to the opening, the more exciting, complicated, challenging and scary the whole thing is becoming, but it will be amazing. I personally can’t wait to see the students faces when they first enter it. Please remember to check the school holidays again as they are significantly different this year due to the move.

Once more I’d like to say welcome back and I wish you all a great year and I look forward to seeing you at any of the events during the year.
