Key Stage 3

At Key Stage 3 students follow a course covering the different types of Geography – Human, Physical and Environmental.  In Year 7 students follow topics on Map Skills, Exploring Britain and Rivers and Floods.  In Year 8 students learn about Energy, Coasts and Settlement.  In Year 9 the topics studied are Earthquakes and Volcanoes and Global Development.  We are in the process of developing our Key Stage 3 curriculum and will be building on these topics.  We will be developing a unit on the London 2012 Olympics.

Key Stage 4

We follow the OCR GCSE Geography B specification.  There are three components to the course:

  • Sustainable Decision Making
  • Geographical Themes
  • Geographical Enquiry

Geographical themes includes:

  • Population and Settlement
  • Rivers and Coasts
  • Natural Hazards
  • Economic Development

Geographical Enquiry is internally assessed and includes fieldwork.  In the past, students have made fieldwork trips to Swanage and Tenby.

Key Stage 5

At A Level we follow the Edexcel specification.  The four topics studied are:

  • Global Challenges
  • Geographical Investigations
  • Contested Planet
  • Geographical Research

All four topics are externally assessed.  Geography A Level is new to the school this year.  Students will have fieldwork opportunities.
